Common Questions

Will the treatment hurt?

We will take every measure to ensure that your procedure is in no way uncomfortable or painful. If treatment is needed, we will inject a small amount of anesthetic to gently numb a localized area of your mouth. For most patients, the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours.  We also have an anesthetic reversal agent available for those patients who need to recover sensation even faster.

Dr. Skane refuses to work on patients unless they are completely comfortable!  It is extremely rare for patients to not be fully anesthetized before treatment but in those situations where anesthesia is not profound, certain medications can be prescribed to make the anesthetic more effective at a subsequent appointment.  Please let the staff know what can be done to make your appointment stress-free.

Will I need to return to your office for follow-ups after the procedure is finished?

Yes, for most root canal treatments, we recommend that patients return to the office 1 year after the procedure was finished. Our office will send a reminder notice to you when you are due for a recall appointment.

Do you accept my insurance?

Yes, we accept payment from all insurance companies.   Your treatment is customized to your exact needs and therefore we can provide you with the best possible care.  Our office is in network with most of the large PPO plans.  If your plan is not one which we participate with, you still have options.  We can file claims with all insurance companies however due to insurance regulations we are not able to submit for payment until your treatment is complete, therefore we ask for 50% of the cost of the procedure at the time of treatment.  From there we will submit a claim to your insurance company and most of the time they cover the remaining balance.  We also offer payment plan options.  Ultimately the patient is responsible for all fees though.  Our policy is outlined in greater detail and will be explained further at your first appointment.

Do you do anything besides root canals?

As an endodontic specialist our practice is limited to root canal treatment and root canal related surgery.  Dr. Skane believes in comprehensive endodontics.  If your tooth is severely broken down or otherwise compromised, Dr. Skane will perform those procedures that are necessary to attain a successful long-term result.  Your full treatment needs will be explained in detail at your first appointment.
